In the crumbling Soviet Union, the Petrosyan family is forced into exile wherever they go. Because of their Armenian origins, they were discriminated against first in their homeland of Azerbaijan and later in Russia. After finding their eternal hope in a church founded by American missionaries, the hostility of everyday life forces them to seek refuge in the United States.
